Lawrence to Take Back Utilities

The Lawrence City Council has finally struck a deal to take back control of Lawrence’s water and sewer utility.  For those that don’t know or can’t remember, in 2001 the then mayor of Lawrence, Thomas Schneider, apparently made some back room deal which gave control of the utilities over to some of his cronies for next to nothing.  Shortly after this shady deal, water prices skyrocketed making Lawrence water some of the most expensive in the area.

County officials are careful to point out that is not a done deal yet, however this could be finally put to rest in the next few days.  It could just be lip service, but the mayor of Lawrence says Lawrence Utilities customers could see a 10% decrease in their bills.

This is a story I'm going to keep my eye on. My original hometown is going through something similar just on a smaller scale. Instead of the entire water and sewer contract, it's just the maintenance section of the contract. Go Post, Thanks!
