MIBOR (Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors) recently released figures showing membership is off by 10.5% since the beginning of this year. The renewal notices and bills have finally been tallied and it reveals what I and many others have suspected all along; a substantial exodus from the real estate careers by lots of agents and brokers.
This may sound macabre, but to me this is GREAT news for both me and the average consumer. It is obvious why this is great news for me…less competition. How this benefits the consumer is that this 10.5% was likely made up part timers or soccer moms and dads who thought real estate would be fun because they like looking at houses. Getting these people out the business increases the likelihood that the consumer will be represented a true professional with more than just casual knowledge and experience. In an industry/career that is embarrassingly easy to gain entry to, it is challenging times like these that can truly distinguish you as a professional.
Here is a quick fact that I find to be great news: “80.7 percent of individuals who have dropped out in 2008 YTD had joined since Jan. 1, 2000”. This 80.7% were likely trying to take advantage of the real estate boom and make a few extra bucks along the way. As a real estate agent who has chosen this a career and a profession, dealing with these part timers can be very frustrating and usually causes me to do their job as well as mine. When you have two talented, knowledgeable, experienced, and dedicated professionals working on a sale, the transaction flows soooooo much smoother even if problems are encountered.
So weather or not you choose to work with the best Indianapolis real estate agent who has almost 9 years of experience in real estate, new home experience, mortgage experience, please pick someone who can and will put your best interest first and represent you as your agent in a proper fashion.
