Did you know that it takes 714 pounds of coal to keep a simple 100 watt light bulb lit for one year?  Do you ever leave a room or go to work with a light bulb on?  I do too.  Think about this…there are approximately 320,000 Indianapolis homes (not counting Carmel, Fishers, Avon, Greenwood, etc.); if we could each save just half of this we would save 114,240,000 pounds of coal.  We would also not put: 800,000 pounds of sulfur dioxide, 816,000 of nitrogen oxides, and 296,320,000 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Don’t get me wrong, you will not see me on some Greenpeace boat chasing down an oil tanker anytime soon, but I do think it is our obligation to do our part.  So next time you notice that light on, think about the 300 Billion pounds of carbon dioxide, get up, and turn it off.
