Greenwood Real Estate News
The much anticipated and much exalted construction of the sporting goods store Cablea’s in Greenwood has been put on hold for now. This comes as a shock to everyone including many investors who used Cabela’s as an impetus to invest in the Greenwood real estate market. Cablea’s cited the national economic downturn as a reason for halting construction on this and other stores across the nation.
When Cablea’s announced it would be building a store in Greenwood, it sparked a flurry of commercial real estate activity. Several hotels and other commercial real estate committed to start new projects once the announcement was made. It now remains to be seen what will happen with some of these projects.
So the future of Greenwood along the I-65 corridor remains a little uncertain at the moment. Maybe I am too pea brained to get it, but I just don’t understand how an outdoor store could define the future of a city. Greenwood is a great city with a great location and someone will come along and develop there even if it isn’t Cablea’s. I suppose Greenwood is feeling a bit like the last kid chosen for kickball on the playground after Medco chose Zionsville over them.
In the long term Greenwood and Greenwood real estate will prosper; they have a great location and offer great value for real estate in the Indianapolis area. Greenwood is growing and will continue to grow with or without Cabela’s. It might be delayed a bit because of this announcement, but Greenwood will be just fine.
