Greenfield is located in Hancock County which lies 15 miles east of Indianapolis at the intersection of US-40 and State Roads 9 and 13 and serves as the county seat. Greenfield is well known for its collection of gracious Victorian homes that back to the days of the “gas boom”. It was during this era (1887-1907) that natural gas was discovered near Greenfield and ushered in the initial commercial and residential growth of the community.
Greenfield is also known as the home the “Hoosier Poet” James Whitcomb Riley who described it as “the best home outside of heaven.” Today Greenfield is quickly becoming a welcoming area for the construction of new homes.
